The Assam Sahitya Sabha has decided to confer the posthumous title of ‘Sangita Sudhakar’ on late artist and cultural icon Zubin Garg in recognition of his contribution to the musical and cultural world of Assam. The 2013–14 season will be played in the UK and the 2013–14 season will be played in the UK and the 2014–15 season will be played in the UK. The award will be presented at a special function organized at Sangeethacharya Lakshmiram Barua Sadan, Guwahati on July 30 at 4 pm.
The award was approved by the Executive and Management Committee of the Sahitya Sabha in the Pancharatna-Gauhati session. President of the Assam Sahitya Sabha in a ceremony in July. The tribute will be part of a cultural program featuring music, dance and theater performances featuring the works of Zubin Garg. The Sahitya Sabha will also conduct a national level seminar on the late artist’s life and work, his creative contribution, humanitarian values and his impact on Assamese society and culture. There are plans to translate selected songs into English, Hindi and Bengali to bring the artist’s timeless creations to a wider audience.
Jubin Garg’s wife Garima Shaikia Garg was awarded posthumously at her studio in Jonali in July. Family members welcomed the Sahitya Sabha initiative and expressed their deep gratitude.
