GUWAHATI: The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) on Sunday, June 21, officially launched the Assam Premier League (APL), a T20 competition aimed at creating a structured competitive platform for domestic cricketers.

The league was formally unveiled during an event held at the 91 Yards Club Auditorium at ACA Stadium in Barsapara, where Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled the tournament’s official logo, trophy and the identities of the eight participating franchises.
The event was attended by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia, ACA President Taranga Gogoi, ACA Secretary Sanatan Das, franchise owners, cricket administrators, and members of the state’s sporting community.
According to ACA, the Assam Premier League has been introduced to provide domestic players with a regular competitive platform within the state and expand the talent pool for Assam’s white-ball and age-group teams.
The inaugural edition will feature eight franchises: Jorhat Stallions, Tezpur Titans, Dibrugarh Warriors, Barak Legends, Nagaon Rangers, Barpeta Braves, Guwahati Royals and Charaideo Sunrisers.
Matches from the first edition will be broadcast live on Star Sports and streamed on JioHotstar.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Assam Premier League Chairperson Rajdeep Oja, who outlined the vision behind the league and emphasised its role in creating a professional and sustainable platform for emerging cricketers while raising the standard of domestic cricket in the state.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the launch of the league marked a defining moment for cricket in Assam and would create opportunities for talented young players to pursue higher aspirations in the sport.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said professionally managed state leagues strengthen domestic cricket structures and provide emerging players with valuable competitive exposure. He also acknowledged the role of the Assam government in developing the state’s sporting ecosystem.
ACA said further announcements regarding the player auction, tournament schedule and other operational details of the inaugural season will be made in the coming weeks.
