The budget session of the 16th Assam Assembly will be held from July 6. The state budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 will be presented in Parliament on July 10, according to the provisional schedule released by the Assembly Secretariat. The session will determine the state’s economic priorities and development path and discuss the legislative agenda and fiscal issues.
The first day of the session, which begins on July 6, will include the regular legislative agenda such as condolence motions, presentation of reports, introduction of government bills and discussion of additional grant requests. Then, on July 10, the state government will present its annual financial statement, unveiling its financial outline and development priorities for the coming year, which is considered the most important agenda of the session. The presentation of the budget will be followed by a three-day general debate on the budget from July 13 to July 15, where legislators will participate in debates on the government’s policy initiatives, expenditure proposals and development programmes.
Proceedings of Parliament will be adjourned from July 16 to July 21 to facilitate departmental parliamentary standing committees to examine grant claims of various departments. The House will meet again on July 22 to discuss and vote on departmental grant demands. Similarly, the House will consider passing the Assam Investments Bill, 2026, which authorizes government expenditure for the current fiscal year after voting on pending grant demands in July.
During the remaining days of the session, government legislative work, proposals and bills of private members as well as important issues of public interest will be discussed.
The upcoming budget session, which includes several important fiscal and legislative issues, is expected to play an important role in shaping the economic strategy, administrative strategy and overall development of Assam for the coming years.
