According to police, the accused had dressed like Bol Bom pilgrims to blend into the large crowds of devotees and avoid detection. The arrests followed multiple complaints from pilgrims about mobile phone thefts in the area during the month-long religious event.

Acting on specific intelligence, a team from Basistha Police Station conducted a targeted operation in and around the Basistha Mandir premises and apprehended the two alleged thieves. Six stolen smartphones were recovered from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Babul Ali, 22, and Sukur Ali, 22, both residents of Assam's Dhubri district.

A case has been registered in connection with the incident, and police have launched a further investigation to determine whether the accused are linked to a larger syndicate.
