GUWAHATI: After Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Saturday, July 25, student protesters and activists welcomed the development, calling it a "victory of democracy", but said their agitation would continue until their remaining demands are met. CJP founder Abhijit Dipke said the resignation marked only the first success of the movement and that the government must now address the pending demands.

Dipke demanded ₹1 crore compensation for the families of all students who died by suicide and called for action against police personnel over their handling of the student protest on July 20. He also reiterated that no action should be taken against the student protesters and sought a public apology from the RAF and Delhi Police.
According to CJP, while Pradhan's resignation has been fulfilled, the demands for compensation, protection for student protesters and a public apology from the RAF and Delhi Police remain pending.
In a post on X, social activist Sonam Wangchuk described the resignation as "a victory of democracy" and said it reflected "direct democracy… straight from the streets". Congratulating CJP, Gen Z protesters and citizens across the country, he said the peaceful movement had demonstrated the power of patience and perseverance, adding that the focus should now shift "from accountability, now to reforms".
Pradhan announced his resignation earlier in the day, stating that the decision was taken to protect students' future and prevent "anti-national forces" from exploiting the large-scale youth protests at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.
The resignation came just hours before the scheduled third round of talks between the Centre and the CJP, which had consistently maintained that Pradhan's resignation was a "non-negotiable" demand in the ongoing agitation over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak.
