13 Suspected Bangladeshi Nationals Detained By Guwahati Police, To Be Pushed Back


 

GUWAHATI: Police detained 13 individuals suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals from the Arya Nagar area of Guwahati on Friday night, June 19, after they allegedly failed to produce valid identity and travel documents during questioning.

According to police officials, the group included a few minors. Following a preliminary investigation by Paltan Bazar Police, all detained individuals were handed over to the Border Police branch for further verification and legal proceedings.

“According to us, they are suspected Bangladeshis. Border Police will be in a better position to provide you further updates,” a police official told GPlus.

Authorities have examined available documents, personal details, travel history and other relevant records to ascertain their nationality and determine the route through which they entered India.

Another police official claimed that during questioning, the detained individuals admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals and stated that they had entered India through West Bengal.

“They have confessed before us that they are Bangladeshi nationals. They had entered India through West Bengal, and they will now be pushed back,” the official said.

Further verification by the Border Police is underway.
