The proposal to change the name was approved at the special general meeting of the federation held in New Delhi. However, the name change will require the approval of the Union Sports Ministry and FIFA‘B. Resolutions must also be passed in the executive committee. Federation president Kalyan Choubey said they have started the process and if the sports ministry approves, the matter will be forwarded to FIFA. He also noted that countries such as Türkiye and the Czech Republic have changed the names of their football associations in the past.
The meeting also decided to start the Indian Super League from September. A total of fourteen teams in this league will play matches at home and on their home grounds for about seven months. However, the future structure of the league is yet to be finalised. For now, this is the club’s problemis left to the federation and the governing body.
