GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday, July 31, said the Assam Government is working on a comprehensive rehabilitation plan for flood affected people in the upper Assam districts, as he announced a series of measures to support families, farmers, students and businesses impacted by the
floods.
Addressing a press conference in Dispur, Sarma said a meeting will be held on August 5 with private and government insurance companies to discuss insurance claims of flood affected people. The discussions will cover vehicle insurance as well as cattle insurance.
He also said the government will meet representatives of NBFCs on August 5 to explore relief measures for borrowers.
The Chief Minister said that many affected people had taken loans from NBFCs rather than banks, and the government would work to ensure that they receive appropriate relief and support.
Earlier, the state government announced a 6-month loan moratorium for several categories of loans for people in the four flood-affected upper Assam districts, besides making provisions for an extension of the loan tenure ranging from 1 to 7 years.
