Badruddin Ajmal in Assam Assembly after two decades

AIUDF chief and MLA from Binnakandi Badruddin Ajmal took oath as MLA in Assam Assembly on Monday. This returns him to the state legislature after nearly two decades. Ajmal was administered the oath by Assam Assembly Speaker Ranjit Kumar Das at his official office. He could not attend the mass oath ceremony of the holy Hajj last May. Several AIUDF leaders and former MLAs were present at the swearing-in ceremony.

After taking oath, Badruddin Ajmal told the media that he has decided to return to state politics only after party discussions. “I felt that I should actively participate in state politics and contest elections as per the party’s decision and received a huge response from the people. He said the current political situation in the country has created an atmosphere of fear among the minorities and expressed deep concern over issues like protection of minorities, inflation and discrimination.

He also criticized the BJP-led government for increasing the prices of gas, petrol and other essential commodities. He said, controlling inflation and eradicating poverty will be their primary goals. Referring to the ongoing eviction drive in the state, Ajmal urged the government to conduct proper investigation and resettlement before taking action against the people. He made it clear that his party would continue to raise these issues politically and legally and approach the Supreme Court if necessary. Pointing out that the elected leaders should always work for the welfare of the people, he said, their fight against poverty, inflation and common man’s problems will always continue.
