Rohit, Kohli Return for England ODIs; Hardik Ruled Out Due to Injury

GUWAHATI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 15-member squad on Sunday, June 21, for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, with senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli making their return to India's 50-over setup for the first time since January.

The series, scheduled to begin in July as part of India's white-ball tour of Europe, will see Shubman Gill lead the side, while Shreyas Iyer has been named vice-captain.

Virat Kohli, who suffered a hamstring injury during the IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad, has been included in the squad. However, the BCCI clarified that his participation will depend on obtaining the necessary fitness clearance ahead of the series.

In contrast, all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been ruled out after failing to fully recover from an injury sustained during the IPL season, dealing a setback to India's preparations.

The ODI squad comprises Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (Vice-Captain), KL Rahul (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh and Gurnoor Brar.

The selection of Rohit Sharma had attracted attention following a mixed performance in the recent ODI series against Afghanistan, where he scored 14, 48 and 79. Earlier, Gill had described the team selection process as a "good headache", suggesting that fitness and team balance would play a crucial role in finalising combinations.

India's ODI campaign against England will begin at Edgbaston on July 14, followed by matches at Sophia Gardens on July 16 and Lord's on July 19.

The BCCI also issued updates regarding the T20I squad for the Ireland series. Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy has been ruled out as he continues rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence after suffering a left-foot injury during IPL 2026.

For the Ireland T20I series, Shreyas Iyer will captain the side, with Tilak Varma serving as his deputy.
