The woman arrived in Guwahati from Bengaluru on an Air India flight on Tuesday evening. Airport security personnel reportedly became suspicious of her movements while she was collecting her luggage and subsequently verified her documents.

During the verification process, officials found that the Aadhaar card she was carrying was allegedly fake, prompting further questioning. According to sources, the woman admitted during interrogation that she was a Bangladeshi national.

Following the inquiry, airport authorities handed her over to the Border Branch of Azara Police Station for further investigation.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had allegedly entered India illegally through the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura with the help of a middleman based in Agartala. After crossing the border, she reportedly travelled by train from Agartala via Guwahati to Bengaluru, where she was working for a private company.

Investigators said she had obtained a forged Aadhaar card under the name Pooja Das, showing an address in West Bengal's South Dinajpur district. Authorities believe the document enabled her to live, travel and work in different parts of the country without attracting attention.

During verification, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel reportedly traced her permanent address to Narayanganj in Bangladesh. Sources said the woman told investigators that she had travelled to Guwahati to meet her boyfriend, who is believed to be residing in the city.

After completion of legal formalities, she was shifted to a detention facility in Goalpara district on Wednesday. Further investigation is underway.
