GUWAHATI: The condition of Dr Bhupen Hazarika Path, a key road connecting Barsapara Stadium to NH-27 in Guwahati, has once again come under scrutiny after residents complained of severe waterlogging, damaged stretches, and safety risks following heavy rainfall on Monday, July 20.

Locals allege that the road has remained in poor condition for several years, with little improvement despite repeated complaints. During heavy rainfall, the stretch gets submerged, making it difficult for residents and commuters to distinguish the road from the adjoining Bharalu River. They also claim that the lack of protective barriers along parts of the road increases the risk of accidents.
Speaking to GPlus, a resident said he had to cancel his train journey due to the inundated road.
"I had a train at around 12:45 pm today, but I had to cancel it because the road was completely blocked. Not a single cab service was available due to the flooding. This is a regular problem. Even after the water recedes, the dirt and silt remain on the roads and inside our homes. It is extremely unhygienic, as the sludge from the Bharalu River gets deposited across the locality," the resident said.
Residents further claimed that the road surface is riddled with potholes and broken patches, making travel hazardous even after the floodwater drains away.
They urged the authorities to undertake permanent repairs and improve the area's drainage infrastructure to prevent recurring waterlogging.
Speaking with GPlus, Manjita Daimary, Ward Councillor of Ward 23, said, "The road is in good condition, and the waterlogging is primarily caused by heavy rainfall. Since the road is sufficiently wide, there is no need for a boundary. However, if any additional work is found to be necessary, we will undertake it."
