The CJP on Monday launched a ‘Parliament Chalo’ program in the national capital Delhi regarding the leak of NEET-UG 2026 exam question papers during the monsoon session of Parliament. Security forces had to use tear gas and mild force as protesters marched towards the parliament building and attempted to break through police barricades, leading to the arrest of several protesters. Thousands of supporters gathered at Jantar Mantar and opposition leaders also took part in the protest.
CJP spokesperson Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka met Union Minister JP Nadda and handed over a written letter after the government offered talks to bring the situation under control. They have three main demands, including the release of social activist Sonam Wangchuk, resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and compensation of Rs 1 crore to the families of the suicide victims. Meanwhile, CJP founder Abhijit Deepak called off his hunger strike on the request of Sonam Wangchuk, who is undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital after 11 days of hunger strike.
Several Delhi Police personnel were injured in clashes between police and protesters. The police alleged that the protesters pelted stones at the security forces. The CJP has accused the police of using excessive force and beating Sonam Wangchuk’s wife and a 12-year-old girl named Gitanjali. However, the Delhi Police immediately denied the claims, calling them false and misleading.
This incident in Delhi has created a strong reaction in the political circles. Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav condemned police lathicharge on students and youth and announced on Tuesday that he would raise the issue in the Lok Sabha alongside the Ram Mandir donation debate. Similarly, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge also raised the issue in the House and accused the government of trying to silence the voice of students through force. Several senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders including Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh and Atish reached Jantar Mantar to support the students’ protest.
The protests also affected traffic across Delhi. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has closed five metro stations including Rajiv Chowk and Patel Chowk due to security concerns. Seven protesters were arrested near the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Police arrested several people in Ahmedabad’s Law Garden area for protesting without permission. Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a closed-door meeting with Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan at Parliament House for about four hours.
Tight security has been deployed in central Delhi with a large number of security personnel including the Rapid Action Force. The CJP spokesperson said that they have agreed to hold talks with the government but have not received any clear commitment from the government. Even if the situation is brought under control, the further course of action of the movement may be determined based on the official response of the government.
