GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has imposed a penalty of ₹10,000 for the unauthorized stocking of building materials on a public road in Roopnagar, reiterating its crackdown on encroachments that obstruct traffic and inconvenience residents.

According to the civic body, the fine was imposed on a property owner at Roopnagar Main Road under Ward No. 4 for illegally storing construction materials on the roadside. An official penalty receipt dated July 24, issued by the GMC, confirms the amount collected.
In a public appeal, the GMC urged residents, contractors and construction agencies to avoid dumping or storing building materials on public roads, warning that such violations hinder traffic movement, pose safety risks and affect public convenience.
"Residents and construction agencies are requested to refrain from obstructing public roads with construction materials. Let's work together to ensure cleaner, safer and hassle-free streets for everyone," the civic body said.
The action is part of the GMC's ongoing efforts to keep city roads free from encroachments and ensure smoother movement for pedestrians and motorists. Authorities have stated that similar violations will continue to attract penalties under municipal regulations.
