GUWAHATI: A minor girl from Assam’s Kamrup (Metro) district, who was kidnapped and later trafficked to Rajasthan, has been rescued by police following an interstate operation that led to the arrest of three accused persons from Bihar.
According to the police, the case began on August 7, 2025, when the complainant, Mazida Begum (53), currently residing at Kotahbari under Gorchuk Police Station, lodged an FIR regarding the disappearance of her 17-year-old daughter identified as Arjima Begum.
In the complaint, Begum stated that she discovered her daughter missing from their residence on the morning of August 7. A day later, she received a phone call by the accused, who informed her that he had kidnapped the minor girl and taken her to another state.
Based on the complaint, Gorchuk Police registered a case vide Gorchuk Police Station Case No. 239/2025 under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) which pertains to punishment for kidnapping, and initiated a probe.
During the course of investigation, police identified the prime accused as Md. Abu Bakkar Siddik, a resident of Bhalukabari under Chaygaon Police Station in Kamrup district. Officials said the victim was a minor at the time of the incident, aged 17 years, 1 month, and 11 days, as verified through her birth certificate.
Police later apprehended the accused and subjected him to interrogation. During questioning, he confessed to kidnapping the minor girl on August 7 and taking her to Bihar. He also revealed that he was employed at a mushroom company near Pataliputra Railway Station.
Investigators further found that while staying in Bihar, the accused came into contact with a couple identified as Ankit Kumar and Kajali Kumari, who were residing in the same apartment complex where he lived. Police alleged that the trio conspired to traffic the minor girl and eventually sold her to an unidentified person in the Sikar area of Rajasthan.
Following the revelations, police arrested the couple from Bihar. Acting on further leads, a police team launched a rescue operation in Rajasthan and recovered the minor girl from Sikar on May 9.
