Director of Census Operations, Assam, Biswajit Pegu, IAS, said at a press conference held with the General Administration Department (GAD) that self-enumeration is intended to make Census 2027 more participatory and encouraged residents to use the online facility.
He said that after the 15-day self-enumeration period concludes on August 16, trained enumerators will visit households from August 17 to September 15 to collect or verify the information provided by residents.
Officials said that all data collected during the exercise is protected under the Census Act, 1948, which ensures the confidentiality of information furnished by citizens.
Due to the ongoing flood situation, training sessions and other preparatory work related to the Census have been suspended in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts until further orders.
GAD Secretary Narsing Pawar, IAS, reaffirmed the state government's commitment to ensuring the smooth conduct of Census 2027, stressing coordinated inter-departmental efforts and greater public awareness to encourage participation.
The Directorate of Census Operations has urged citizens to complete the self-enumeration process before the August 16 deadline. A tutorial video explaining the process has also been made available online.
