The state animal husbandry and veterinary department has directed the state animal husbandry and veterinary department to take action against illegal cattle trafficking and markets in Lakhimpur district following a serious complaint by international animal protection organization PETA India. The Director of Animal Husbandry and the office of the District Commissioner of Lakhimpur recently sent an official letter to the Superintendent of Police, the Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad and the District Transport Officer of the district directing them to take immediate action to stop this illegal business.

The complaint clearly states that transporting food and water in trucks and pickup vehicles in the crowd is in gross violation of the government’s Animal Transport Policy and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
As alleged in the complaintThis is in clear violation of Sections 3, 11(1)(a), 11(1)(d), 11(1)(e), 11(1)(k) and 38(3) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, in addition to Sections 47 to 56 and 83(83) of the Smuggling Act. 1978; Sections 3(5) and 325 of the Indian Justice Code, 2023; It also violates Rule 125E of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 2016 and Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, it also does not comply with the special requirements for motor vehicles carrying livestock required by Rule 125E.
The Lakhimpur DC’s office issued a letter to the animal husbandry department in January last year directing it to investigate the matter. Then Lakhimpur District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer Dr° Akshayavat Keshari requested the police and the transport department to inspect the markets and ensure proper control of entry and exit of animals from the markets. Later, in April, the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department of the State sent a special directive to the District Superintendent of Police, Lakhimpur to take appropriate action in this regard. The concerned department has been directed by the administration to complete the entire process properly and submit a report in this regard.
After this directive was issued by the higher offices of the state government, Lakhimpur district police and transport department took concrete steps against illegal animal syndicates.That would be remarkable.
