Pakistan’s Supreme Court has upheld the death sentences of two youths convicted of gang-raping a French woman in front of her children. On Wednesday, the Lahore High Court strongly rejected the plea of the duo.
This tragic incident happened when the victim, a French woman came to Pakistan with her two children. On the night of September 11, she was driving to Gurjanwala province via Lahore with her two children. He was driving on Lahore highway when suddenly his car ran out of fuel. She immediately called her husband and informed him of her danger. She then followed her husband’s advice and called the police for help. The deceased have been identified as 20-year-old Arun Kumar and 18-year-old Arun Kumar. They then smashed the car window, forced the woman out and gang-raped her in front of her two innocent children. Despite the inhuman incident, there was no police patrol car on the road. After satisfying their lust, the two assailants took away the woman’s three ATM cards along with money and jewellery.
But they could not escape. Later the police arrested them. Their names are Abid Ali and Safqat Ali. They also confessed before the magistrate. Based on facts and evidence, Pakistan’s anti-terrorism court sentenced the two youths to death in March 2021. Challenging the order, they went to the Lahore High Court. But even there they failed. On Wednesday, the High Court of Pakistan rejected all their appeals and upheld the death sentence.
