Employee flees leaving patient behind, one dies in ICU


The condition of the patients is critical in the fire incident at a hospital in Bihar on Thursday night. A fire broke out on the sixth floor of the hospital at 3:55 pm, killing one patient and injuring more than 20 others.

A fire broke out on the sixth floor of the hospital and black smoke billowed out of the hospital. The fire spread instantly and the entire hospital was engulfed in black smoke. Family members of the deceased and locals risked their lives and entered the hospital to save their relatives. But by then the fire had completely spread over a large part of the sixth floor.

Eyewitnesses said that the fire broke out in the ICU room on the sixth floor of the hospital where 15 patients were being treated at that time. The relatives of the patient alleged that no hospital doctor or any other staff was found at the spot immediately after the fire. Hospital staff fled the scene for their lives, leaving patients in grave danger. A youth told the media that his father was admitted in the ICU and died in the fire.

Fire service personnel rushed to the spot and started rescue operations. A fire service official said that most of the hospital staff had fled the scene before they arrived. The rescue team broke the windows of the ICU and adjacent rooms to evacuate the trapped patients. More than 20 patients are currently being treated for injuries and are in critical condition.
