Popular messaging app Telegram is available again on Google Play Store from Tuesday morning. Google’s move comes after the central government’s temporary ban on the app expired in June midnight, however, some older users were still able to access the app before it was brought back to the Play Store.
On the other hand, Telegram was not available on Apple’s App Store until 10 am. Questions were emailed to Apple to find out, but there was no immediate response from them. The government has not changed or extended the ban on Telegram till June 22, official sources said.
The government had banned Telegram for failing to prevent the spread of fake question papers, spread of misleading information and other evils affecting the examination process. Before imposing the ban, government officials met with Telegram authorities on June 3 to raise these concerns. The government has decided to suspend the app, its web version and links till June
The government has issued strict orders to stop the feature of changing or editing messages on Telegram till June. The NIT exam was held peacefully on June 21 and no irregularities or cheating have been reported so far.
