Heavy rains in the nearby hills of Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday caused the right bank of Shingra River under the newly formed Ranganadi assembly constituency to breach and inundate a large area.
The deceased have been identified as 20-year-old Arun Kumar (19) and 20-year-old Arun Kumar,
The flood diverted the river from its original course and made a new course through the affected villages. The flood waters inundated the main road of the village as well as agricultural fields, schools and residential areas.
The floods disrupted normal life and cut off communication in some parts of the affected areas.
Local residents have expressed concern over the rapid rise in water levels and extensive damage caused by the river’s diversion.
The Shinra river has long been known for its unpredictable behavior during monsoons. In 2020, the river caused extensive damage to the Dulahat area after the dam broke near NH-15, causing widespread flooding and erosion.
Recent breaches have raised concerns about the weakness of the embankment system and the risk of repeated flooding along the Shinra River.
Authorities are monitoring the situation, but the extent of damage to infrastructure and crops has yet to be officially assessed.
