Following the theft of devotees’ donations from the Ram temple in Ayodhya and the Badrinath temple in Uttarakhand, the same incident happened at the famous Ambaji temple in Gujarat. According to temple authorities, Chirag Thakur, a contractual employee, tried to hide a bundle of around Rs 1 lakh from him while counting the money. While leaving the counting room on the pretext of going to the toilet, the bundle of money fell from his pocket on the floor. Other employees became suspicious and an investigation began.
Two more contract employees have also been named in the investigation. The deceased have been identified as 20-year-old Arun Kumar and 18-year-old Arun Kumar. They were subsequently arrested by the police and simultaneously the three accused were dismissed from their jobs.
After the incident, the trust managing the temple decided to tighten security and transparency. Mihir Patel, head of the trust’s management committee and district commissioner of Banaskantha district, said new rules have been introduced to prevent such incidents from happening again in future.
