The Delhi Police on Saturday morning allowed the social media platform ‘Kakroch Janata Party’ to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The online platform has called for protests demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET exam question paper leak.
Earlier on Friday, Kakroach Janata Party founder Abhijit Deepak arrived in Delhi from the US to lead the protest. Delhi Police officials met him at the airport and allowed him to go to Jantar Mantar for the protest. On his way out of the airport, Deepak met social reformer and constitutional architect B.S. R.S. He was seen carrying a copy of Ambedkar’s autobiography. Deepak initially asked his supporters to gather at the Sangsad Marg police station seeking permission to protest but after getting permission from the police, he asked them to go straight to Jantar Mantar.
According to a leaflet distributed at the protest site, the main aim of the protest is to ensure accountability, seek justice and demand the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The magazine also reported that more than 800,000 people have already signed a petition filed by the party demanding the resignation of the education minister.
Abhijit Deepak launched the satirical digital platform ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ on 16 May following the controversy over Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant’s comments on ‘parasite’ and ‘cockroach’, within hours of its launch the platform gained massive attention on the internet and crossed millions of followers on various social media platforms.
Delhi Police has taken strict security measures in view of the protests. Around 2,000 police personnel have been deployed in and around central Delhi.
