At the age of 15, Vaibhav Suryavanshi got a chance to play in the Indian jersey. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad for the tri-nation ODI series in Sri Lanka. India’s opponents in the series are Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
The teenager has been a strong performer for Rajasthan Royals in the current IPL. He scored 440 runs in 11 matches. Vaibhav also grabbed headlines with his explosive century against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
As a reward for his performance, he was invited to the India A team. Earlier, the new sensation cricketer from Samastipur in Bihar also played for the Rising India team.
After the tri-series, India ‘A’ will play two multi-day matches against Sri Lanka ‘A’. But the team for that series will be announced later. The ODI will be played in Dambulla and the multi-day game will be played in Galle. Tilak Verma will lead the Indian team in the series. Ryan Parag has been given the vice-captaincy.
The team consists of Priyansh Arya, Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, Harsh Dubey, Suryash Shades, Prabhasimran Singh, Kumar Kushagra, Vipraj Nigam, Yash Thakur, Yuvraj Singh, Anshul Kamboj and Arshad Khan.
India will play two matches against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in the round robin phase of the tri-nation series. Vaibhav will play his first match against Sri Lanka in June. The group stage will conclude with the June final on June 21. This will be followed by a multi-day match. However, the squad for that series will be announced later.
“Limited over matches will be played in Dambulla. Gaul will host a multi-day match,” he said. But now all eyes are on glory. Cricket fans are eager to see how this young batsman plays on the tour of Sri Lanka.
