According to officials, unidentified miscreants targeted the moving convoy, triggering a powerful explosion. The three personnel died on the spot, while the injured were shifted to a medical facility for treatment. Their condition has not yet been officially disclosed.
Following the attack, the Assam Rifles and Dimapur Police launched a joint search operation to trace those responsible. Security has also been intensified in and around the blast site.
The incident comes less than a week after another IED attack targeting security forces in the region, raising fresh concerns over militant activity. On July 7, two Assam Rifles personnel were killed after suspected militants triggered an IED on NH-202 near Nungshang Kong in Manipur's Ukhrul district, the Indian Army's Eastern Command had stated.
Meanwhile, retired Army officer and Kirti Chakra awardee Major Digvijay Singh Rawat claimed in a post on X that the latest attack was carried out by the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) [NSCN-IM]. He also alleged that the outfit has previously collaborated with the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) in attacks on security forces.
However, there has been no official confirmation regarding the involvement of any insurgent group, and no organisation has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.
Investigations into the incident are underway, and further details are awaited.
