Sonam Wangchuk’s health is deteriorating

The CJP’s protest against irregularities in the country’s examination system entered its 23rd day on Sunday at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who participated in the protest at Jantar Mantar demanding justice for the students, has also entered into her indefinite fast for 15 days and her health is rapidly deteriorating. The Assam National Assembly (AJP) has expressed its full support to the protests across the country demanding transparency and accountability in the education system in view of the crisis in the education sector and the future of students.

The AJP president visited the protest site and interacted with other protesters including climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and CJP founder Abhijit Deepke. “The education sector across the country is going through a serious crisis and it has deeply disappointed the student community of the country,” Gogoi told reporters. He pointed out that as a result of this frustration, forty students took extreme steps like suicide, which is only one statistic that has come to light. They are going to express solidarity with Assam protestors. Later, in a post on social media, he said he was proud to stand by the students at Jantar Mantar and that the youth of the country deserved justice and transparency.

CJP founder Abhijit Deepak thanked Lurinjyoti Gogoi for her support. Samajwadi Party MP Pushpandra Saroj, former Kerala Health Minister KK Sailaja and two other former Kerala ministers KN Baladogopal and P Raji also came to the protest site on Sunday to support the protesters.

Meanwhile, Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike since June 28, is deeply concerned about her health. According to health data released by the CJP, Wangchuk’s blood pressure dropped to 104/66 and he lost 7.8 kg as a result of the 15-day fast. Deepke, who posted the information on social media, questioned the government’s silence and when will the government wake up.

The CJP is demanding Rs 1 crore compensation to the families of students who committed suicide following the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and the controversy. The union has officially announced a massive protest march at Parliament House on July 20, the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament.
