According to an official statement issued by the CBI, a case was registered on Saturday, June 13, against the accused railway official following a complaint alleging corruption in the clearance of a contractor's pending bill.

The complainant, a contractor, alleged that a bill amounting to approximately ₹20 lakh for work already executed was pending for clearance with the accused officer. When the contractor approached the engineer on June 12 and requested him to process and clear the bill, the official allegedly demanded one per cent of the total bill amount as illegal gratification.

Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 from the contractor.

The accused was subsequently arrested and is scheduled to be produced before the competent court in Guwahati on June 14.

The investigative agency further stated that searches are currently underway at the residential premises of the accused as part of the ongoing probe.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
