AAP leader Tahir Hussain has been found guilty of murdering IB officer Ankit Sharma


Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma was killed during a deadly communal clash in Northeast Delhi. Nearly six years after the incident, a Delhi court on Monday convicted former Aam Aadmi Party councilor Tahir Hussain and four others in the murder case. On the other handSix other accused were acquitted for lack of sufficient evidence.

Additional Satra Judge Praveen Singh heard the case. He is among the 11 accused along with Tahir HossainQasim, Javed and Anas. Hussain was convicted of murder, inciting enmity between religious groups, assault and insulting a person. However, the charge of criminal conspiracy against him was withdrawn. According to internal sources of the court, Tahir Hossain cried after hearing the verdict.

Ankit Sharma’s father Ravinder Kumar filed the case at Dayalpur police station. According to the complaintAnkit Sharma returned home from work on February 25, 2020 and went out again and has been missing ever since. Locals later informed the family that Sharma was killed and dumped in the Khajuri Khas drain near a mosque in Chandbagh Pulia area. Later his body was recovered from the drain. Father Ravinder Kumar alleged that Tahir Hussain and others killed his son.

In that judgment, the court Hussain MdNazim, Qasim, Javed and Anas, and Hasin, Sameer Khan, Feroze, Gulfam, Shoaib Alam and Muntazim were acquitted for lack of evidence. On March 24, 2023, the court framed charges against them under various sections, including murder and assault.

Clashes occurred in February 2020 during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act in Northeast Delhi. Incidents of stone pelting followed the violenceArson and vandalism, in which 53 people lost their lives and many others were injured. This is a very important judgment related to the Delhi conflict. The amount of punishment for the guilty will be announced separately by the court later.
