According to the NFR, railway personnel acted swiftly after being alerted to the passenger’s condition, triggering coordinated efforts by the Rangiya Control, Commercial and Medical departments to arrange emergency medical support before the train’s arrival at Rangiya Railway Station.

A medical team from the Rangiya Division was deployed and stationed at the railway station ahead of the train’s arrival. Meanwhile, the delivery took place inside the train with assistance from the coach attendant and a nurse, Krishnama Goldsmith Bezbaruah of Jorhat Christian Mission Hospital, who was travelling on the same train.

Speaking to the media, NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said, “The alertness and prompt response of the on-duty train staff enabled the Rangiya Control, Commercial and Medical Departments to mobilise assistance well in advance. A medical team headed by Dr. Sarat Chandra reached Rangiya Railway Station before the train’s arrival. In the meantime, with the assistance of the coach attendant and Krishnama Goldsmith Bezbaruah, a nurse from Jorhat Christian Mission Hospital who happened to be travelling on the train, the baby was safely delivered on board.”

Upon arrival at Rangiya, both the mother and newborn were attended to by the railway medical team and shifted to Rangiya Railway Hospital for further treatment. As the baby was born prematurely, the duo was later referred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati through a railway ambulance for specialised care.

NFR said both the mother and child are stable. The railway authorities also expressed appreciation for nurse Krishnama Goldsmith Bezbaruah for her timely intervention and assistance during the emergency.
