GMC Seizes Nearly 300 Bags of Banned Single-Use Plastic in Overnight Drive


 

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) carried out a major enforcement drive against banned single-use plastics (SUP) last night, seizing a total of 297 bags across two locations in the city.

According to an official statement from GMC, 209 bags of banned single-use plastic were confiscated from KRC Road, Kumarpara, while an additional 88 bags were seized from Jalukbari during the same operation.

Photographs shared by the civic body on X, show municipal vehicles loaded with large sacks of confiscated plastic material, along with sanitation staff involved in the seizure and collection process.

GMC reiterated its commitment to enforcing the ban on single-use plastics and protecting the environment, urging businesses and citizens across the city to adopt sustainable alternatives. "We urge all businesses and citizens to switch to sustainable alternatives and join us in building a cleaner, greener Guwahati," the corporation said, adding, "Together, let's make Guwahati plastic-free."

The drive is part of GMC's ongoing efforts to crack down on the use of banned plastics in the city, with officials indicating that similar enforcement actions will continue.
