GUWAHATI: The oath-taking ceremony of the members of the newly constituted Karbi Welfare Autonomous Council was held on Thursday, June 18, at the Banikanta Kakoti Auditorium of Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.
The ceremony was attended by Assam's Minister for Tribal Affairs (Plains) and Education, Ranoj Pegu, along with senior officials from the Tribal Affairs Department. The oath of office was administered by Secretary to the Government of Assam, Tribal Affairs Department, Sushama Hazarika.
Senior officials of the Tribal Affairs Department, including the Additional Chief Secretary, Commissioner and Secretary, and the Director of Tribal Affairs (Plains), were also present at the ceremony.
The newly constituted council has been formed to address the welfare and developmental needs of the Karbi community residing outside the jurisdiction of the autonomous councils in Assam.
Earlier, the oath-taking ceremony of the newly formed Rabha Development Council was held at the office of the Department of Tribal Affairs (Plains). The council has been constituted to promote the development and welfare of members of the Rabha community living outside the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council area.
In the presence of All Rabha Students' Union President Motilal Rabha and General Secretary Dr. Subhash Rabha, Tribal Affairs (Plains) Secretary Sushama Hazarika administered the oath of office to Mukunda Koch as Chairman of the council. Lakhyiram Rabha and Madan Rabha were sworn in as Vice-Chairmen, along with other members of the council.
The formation of both councils is aimed at strengthening welfare initiatives and ensuring focused development measures for the Karbi and Rabha communities residing outside the areas governed by existing autonomous councils.
