With supporters expected to assemble at the site, attention is now focused on Ganeshguri this evening as the artist moves ahead with his decision to recreate the portrait and gauge public sentiment surrounding the controversy.

The controversy erupted after Zubeen Garg's mural at Ganeshguri was seen being painted over on Wednesday, triggering widespread backlash on social media. Fans, admirers and members of the public expressed disappointment over the removal of the portrait. The incident quickly gained traction online, sparking reactions across the state.

The incident also drew a response from Zubeen Garg's wife, Garima Garg Saikia, who shared an emotional message on Facebook following the mural's removal. Questioning whether the portrait had truly made the city "ugly" or was unnecessary in the first place, she said that while the image may have been erased from the wall, it was impossible to remove the affection people hold for the singer in their hearts.

“He is immortal. He is rooted in our hearts, minds, emotions, and conscience. And he will remain there forever.”, Saikia wrote.

Meanwhile, Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) Mayor Mrigen Sarania has clarified that the civic body was not involved in taking down the mural.

Speaking to the media, Sarania stated that the GMC's role was limited to cleaning the area and removing garbage from the site. He categorically denied allegations that the corporation had removed the artwork, adding that the GMC has no information regarding who was responsible for taking down the singer’s portrait.
