A massive fire broke out at a coaching center in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow area on Monday. At least 13 people were killed in this incident. The building caught fire and some students jumped from the second floor to save their lives.
After more than an hour of fire, the situation was brought under control and 13 bodies were recovered from the spot. Located in a commercial area, the building housed a pet shop and other businesses in addition to a coaching center. Witnesses said that many people jumped from the center on the second floor. A video shows a man climbing through a broken window and trying to grab the railing but falling. Locals immediately rescued him and took him to a safe place. He was injured and is currently undergoing treatment.
Police and fire service personnel brought the fire under control. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak visited the spot and reviewed the rescue operation. He said every room has been checked and NDRF teams are also conducting rescue operations. There was a lot of wooden furniture inside, creating a lot of smoke that made it impossible to see anything. “The kids came here to learn animation and they were between 16-17 years old,” he added. A high-level investigation has been ordered to find out the cause of the incident. A fire broke out on the top floor of a building and spread rapidly. Locals said five to seven students jumped down and one of them broke his leg.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over this incident. He announced a financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. The Prime Minister’s Office announced this in an X. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed his condolences and directed officials to contact the families of the victims and provide all possible assistance.
