Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the development on X, stating, “Opening new avenues to connect Assam to the global community!”
With the launch of the new services, Guwahati Airport will be connected to four countries — the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Singapore and Bhutan. Officials said the routes are aimed at strengthening international connectivity from the Northeast and enhancing Guwahati’s role as a regional aviation hub. Further expansion is also being planned, including proposed direct services to Vietnam.
Meanwhile, the European Union has withdrawn its earlier travel advisory for Assam following a recent visit by EU diplomats. Australia and Japan had also revised similar advisories earlier.
Officials said the developments are expected to support tourism, trade and travel, and reflect improved international confidence in Assam.
