New Youth Welfare Department to Be Set Up in Assam, Cabinet Allots Land for Two Educational Institutions


 

GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet has approved the creation of a new Youth Empowerment and Welfare Department to focus on employment facilitation, career guidance, entrepreneurship, leadership development and coordination of various youth-focused initiatives.

With the creation of the new department, the existing Sports and Youth Welfare Department will be re-designated as the Sports Department, which will focus exclusively on sports development in the state.

The Cabinet also approved the allotment of 200 bighas of land to the Azim Premji Foundation for establishing the Azim Premji University at Barduar Mouza under the Palashbari Revenue Circle.

In another decision, the Cabinet approved the allotment of 574 bighas of land to IIM-Guwahati at Marabhitha village under Baduar Mouza of the Palashbari Revenue Circle.

The Assam Cabinet was chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday, August 18.
