Ustad Bismillah Khan Youth Award winner Hirakjyoti Sharma given a warm welcome at Girijanand Chowdhury University


A special and joyous reception was held at Girijanand Chowdhury University in Guwahati on Saturday (June 13). The event also included a warm welcome and congratulations to Hirakjyoti Sharma, Guest Lecturer in Assamese Language and Folk Music of the University, for her recent achievements. He was awarded the prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Youth Award for his achievements, a matter of great pride for the entire university.

The Ustad Bismillah Khan Youth Award is a very high level national recognition in the field of visual arts in India. Sangeet Natak Academy presents this award in memory of famous Chehnai musician Ustad Bismillah Khan. The award is given to encourage emerging young artists below the age of 40 who have made special contributions in the fields of music, dance, theater and traditional or folk arts.

The hall was filled with university teachers and staff. The event was attended by Heerakjyoti Sharma who performed a beautiful folk song.

Several dignitaries were present on the occasion. SSA Society President Yashoda Ranjan Das, Girijananda Chowdhury University Principal Prof. Jayant Deka, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kandarpa Das and Registrar Prof. Dipankar Saha were present on the occasion.

Besides, deans of the University’s Engineering and Technology, Management and Commerce, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Natural Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Allied Health Sciences and Legal Studies centers were present on the occasion. All wish the budding artiste all the best for her future development.
