The survey, which will continue for two months, is expected to cover nearly one lakh establishments, including roadside vendors, small retail outlets, and eateries spread across the city.
Speaking during an interaction with the media, Sarma said the initiative aims to assess the scale of self-employment and business activity in Guwahati while gathering detailed information about those engaged in the informal sector.
According to the Chief Minister, the exercise will help the government better understand the economic contribution of street vendors and small traders, many of whom generate significant daily earnings through their businesses.
He noted that several vendors and small shop owners in the city reportedly earn substantial revenues, with some businesses recording daily turnovers of up to ₹10,000.
Sarma said the survey would also collect data on the backgrounds of those involved in street vending and small businesses, including information about the regions from which they have migrated to Guwahati.
Highlighting the broader significance of the exercise, the Chief Minister expressed hope that the findings would encourage more local youth to explore entrepreneurship and self-employment opportunities.
"The survey will provide valuable insights into the business ecosystem of Guwahati and showcase the economic potential available in trade and small enterprises. It can serve as a source of inspiration for Assamese youth looking to build livelihoods through entrepreneurship," he said.
