Dr Jagannath Biswakarma of Nagaon has been appointed Senior Science Officer at the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.


Dr. Jagannath Vishwakarma has brought a lot of pride to Assam and Nagaon district. Environmental scientist Dr Biswakarma has been given a key role in the UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. He will now serve as Senior Science Officer in the UK’s Environment and Water Resources Attachment Civil Service. This news brought joy to the whole of Assam.

Dr. Vishwakarma has been doing intensive research on ecology and water resources for the past two decades. He has conducted his research not only in India but also in developed countries like Japan and Switzerland. He is currently a Visiting Professor at IIT Hyderabad, India and working on various research projects with various universities in Assam.

His research focuses on water pollution prevention and water treatment. He also works in agriculture, irrigation and recovery of minerals from contaminated water. He has long researched how toxic substances like arsenic, especially in groundwater, adversely affect human health. In addition to his research, he has actively participated in scientific collaboration and environmental policy making at the international level.

Apart from science, he is also closely involved with Assamese language and literature. He is a life member of the Assam Sahitya Sabha and the Executive President of the Foreign Assamese sub-committee of the Nagaon District Sahitya Sabha. Dr. Jagannath Biswakarma, who has brightened the name of Assam with his talents on foreign soil, is now being felicitated and felicitated from various quarters for his success.
