Rupali Langthasa assured about the Uniform Civil Code

Newly elected BJP MLA from Dima Hasao Rupali Langthasa has said that the Uniform Civil Code or UCC introduced by the Assam government in the Assam Assembly session will not have any impact on the tribals of the state.

Speaking to reporters in Guwahati on May 14, he clarified that the traditional lifestyle and customs of tribals will be fully protected even after the new law comes into force. According to Langthas, tribal societies would continue to function for centuries, and the UCC would not harm them.

According to the country’s economy minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, the country’s economy is expected to grow by 10 percent in 2013-14. The Chief Minister told the media that the government plans to introduce the UCC Bill in the next Assembly session but hill and tribal areas will be excluded from the scope of the Act. The proposed legislation is likely to specifically cover issues such as marriage registration, inheritance rights, live-in relationships and a fixed age for marriage.

The MLA also reacted to the controversy surrounding Congress leader Pawan Khera. He strongly criticized the allegations against the Assam Chief Minister’s wife and said it was unfortunate to wrongly accuse a woman without any information. He expressed confidence that appropriate action will be taken in this regard according to the principles of law. Fierce debate between BJP and Congress. Fierce debate between BJP and Congress.
