GUWAHATI: India finished with a total of 32 medals, including 7 gold, 13 silver and 12 bronze, at the 9th Heroes International Taekwondo Championship 2026 held in Pattaya City, Thailand, from July 31 to August 2.
Among the standout performers from Assam, Dhimani Hazarika won the gold medal in the Under-53 kg category, while Rairoop Khaklari secured a silver medal, contributing to India's overall medal tally.
India was represented by a 38-member contingent comprising 33 athletes and five coaches, who competed against participants from several countries.
Assam had a strong presence in the Indian team, with 19 athletes from Handique Girls' College, 13 from Cotton University and two from Arya Vidyapeeth College.
The contingent was led by coach Ambrose Kumar Bora, who guided the athletes throughout the championship.
According to a member of the Indian contingent, the team's overall performance reflected India's growing strength in international taekwondo, with athletes from Assam making a significant contribution to the country's success.
